Long before “product-led growth” became a buzzword, Atlassian was already offering free versions of nearly all its collaboration tools.
Today, this means free access for up to 10 users, with a few additional limitations. For startups, it’s a great way to get started with tools like Jira and Confluence – but many outgrow that 10-user threshold fairly quickly.

With that in mind, Atlassian has launched the Atlassian for Startups programme, offering eligible startups with less than $10 million in funding a free one-year subscription for up to 50 users. The products included in this programme are Jira, Confluence, Loom, Jira Product Discovery, Bitbucket, and Compass.

Atlassian CMO Zeynep Inanoglu Ozdemir stated that the company has long observed how startups grow on its platform and evolve into large, mature businesses.

“It’s clearly a win-win situation,” she said. “We love that we can take some of the burden off companies in terms of operations and project management so they can focus on innovation. So we thought, okay, let’s help the startup community by making it easier for them to get started.”

It’s also worth noting that, while Atlassian originally catered mostly to the tech sector, the company has increasingly focused on including non-technical startups as well. Ozdemir said she expects to see a strong uptake from startups outside the traditional tech space.

With the launch of this programme, Atlassian also announced partnerships with several startup accelerators, including AWS Activate, Accel, Blackbird, and Menlo Ventures.
